もっていく【持って行く】

1 〔運ぶ〕 carry; take sth 《to a place》; 〔持ち去る〕 take [carry, bear] away.

●この書類を庶務まで持っていってくれませんか. Will you please carry these papers to the person in charge of general affairs for me?

・だれか私の傘を持っていってしまった. Somebody has taken (away) my umbrella.

・〔取り調べで〕 話を事件のほうへ持っていくと彼は口をつぐんでしまった. He fell silent [refused to say anything more] when we tried to steer the conversation to the incident.

・この話はどこの役所へ持っていけばよいのだろうか. What office should I visit to make inquiries about this?

・自ら招いた災いだから苦情の持って行き場がない. As it is a calamity which he courted himself, he must thank himself for it.

・上手なゴルファーはボールをうまいところへ持っていくやり方を心得ている. A really good golfer knows how to finesse the ball from position to position.

・アジの干物を作っていたら猫に持っていかれてしまった. Some of the horse mackerels, which had been set out to dry, were stolen by a cat.

2 〔携行する〕 take; take sth along [with one]; carry.

●弁当[傘]を持っていく take [carry] a lunch box [one's umbrella, an umbrella].
